Review by nh on 09.07.2002 A pleasant surprise in Back Bay I recently went to the restaurant Laurel in the Back Bay and the place pleasantly surprised me. The decor was upscale and classy, the food was great, and most entrees were just a $10 flat rate. Two can have a wonderful, romantic meal for less than $50. On the Friday night I was there, the bar area was very lively and it was a nice place to have a drink before sitting down for dinner. The atmosphere was perfect for a date because the tables are spaced nicely. They have a variety of modern American fusion dishes and their desserts are scrumptious. I had the soy-ginger marinated salmon, served with pickled cabbage and a snow-pea shitake mushroom salad. The salmon was cooked just right and the marinade they used had a wonderful flavor. The chocolate espresso mousse cup was the perfect ending to the meal - it was a hard chocolate shell filled with creamy mousse and drizzled with chocolate.
